This code cannot be cleared or erased with any diagnostic scan tool. I was told by the dealer that until Subaru issues a recall they can't help me and won't reimburse me for my charges. Are you getting SRS Airbag Error Code B1650 indicating an Occupant Classification Malfunction in your Subaru? I told them that I researched the matter online and that many Subaru Forester owners are experiencing the same intermittent problem. They cleared the codes and stated they could not determine what was wrong and the light did not come on while the car was at the dealer but they didnt even drive the car which is why the problem could not be replicated. They checked for any damage/loose connections/moisture as dealer stated those things may cause the lights to come on but no problems were found. ![]() They checked for stored codes and it came back with code b1760 was stored in occupant detection system and code b1650 stored in airbag control system. This seems to happen only during longer commutes as I've noticed the warning lights do not come on when driving short driving distances and the warning lights often disappear when car gets turned off or after a day passes. Red srs airbag warning light in the driver's console also comes on. Instrument cluster displays warning message when this happens and airbag off display light comes on. Passenger side airbags are intermittently being disabled when a passenger sits in the seat in a proper seating position. This happens with the car on, but parked, stopped waiting for a light to change, moving, going forward, going reverse, and is intermittent. I don't care what they say to us, it's their responsibility and a deadly risk drive this car with the passenger light on and a passenger in it and been involved in an accident. ? not possible to recline the back of the seat. Also nothing in front of that seat by the floor. Any item, cellular, tablet, computer, battery, bags, pursues, shopping items, papers, documents on that seat will possibly cause the situation again and they wont cover it under warranty. That we could not locate anything other than a passenger on that seat. They just called me and state the seat airbag was replaced $1,100 under warranty, car is 6500 miles or so. Yesterday, car was dropped again at dealer with light on and the car still on, in order not to lose the situation at restart. Car back again to dealer but then light was gone off. A month later the car started to do the passenger airbag warning light on and off again. One of the first times they inspected the car, and their solution was to relocate the "module" (whatever the module is) for that seat. This is the third or maybe fourth occasion vehicle is at the dealer. I would just like Subaru to take ownership of the problem and fix the airbag systems before someone is injured or killed.įront passenger airbag has been intermittently on and off, with and without a passenger, with and without items on the seat. I have searched online and it is interesting to see that so many other Subaru Forester owners have the same problem and there are law groups lining up class action suits. I went into dealer today on to again have the problem looked at only to be told that the car is no longer under warranty and they can order part. I find it troubling that a major safety system of a vehicle is malfunctioning on a regular basis and the Subaru is not actively trying to fix the vehicles. Nothing has ever been spilled on the seats. Told we had spilled liquid on seat and seat dirty. We were told do not place anything electronic near the seat. The car was brought into dealer and I was told multiple times codes were not there so no problem. The warning light has come on 40-50 times when the car is on the road and a passenger is in the passenger seat. This happened when a passenger was in the passenger seat and the car was on a highway. On 09/05/17 the warning light on dashboard came on warning that the passenger airbags were not functioning. Purchased our 2017 Subaru Forester on 09/24/16. ![]()
